NeuraSearch: Brain Machine Interfaces & IR

Today’s search engines rely entirely on what users type and click, leaving the underlying cognitive processes of information seeking largely invisible. This talk explores how Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) technology can bridge this gap by directly measuring brain activity during search. It presents three complementary research directions: understanding the neural foundations of information retrieval, enhancing search and recommendation systems through real-time neurophysiological feedback, and enabling novel forms of interaction with information systems through brain-computer interfaces. The talk also discusses the practical, ethical, and privacy challenges of deploying cognition-aware search technologies and outlines a vision for the next generation of intelligent information access.
